We submitted a planning application for the site back in May 2024 which was subsequently refused by the Council. This decision went to appeal in June 2025 by way of a public inquiry.

 

The public inquiry was however adjourned by the Planning Inspectorate. Since then, Project Genesis and Amethyst Homes have worked in collaboration with Durham County Council Officers to agree a new planning approach for the application site. This has resulted in a revised scheme which addresses the planning matters previously in dispute.

Importantly, this agreed planning strategy removed the need to carry on with the public inquiry, with the appeal formally withdrawn back in November 2025. Project Genesis and Amethyst Homes are now preparing a fresh planning application for the site, with a target submission date of April 2026.
